Vote for your HBL Player of the Month September 2! | news

Goalkeeper: Christian Ole Simonsen (TSV Bayer Dormagen)

The young goalkeeper from Dormagen was the first candidate to be selected for the 2nd HBL player of the month. Dormagen’s current number one Martin Juzbasic missed the first few games of the season with an injury and Simonsen was therefore challenged. The 22-year-old was able to handle the pressure well and delivered top performances.

Simosen blocked a third of all shots that came his way in a three-game period. In each of the three games against Dessau, Konstanz and Würzburg he made double-digit saves. He showed his best form against Wolves of Würzburg when TSV scored their first points away against Wolves. With 17 saves, a retention rate of 38.64% and two assists, he was instrumental in this first success.

Left wing: Jaime Fernandez (HSG Nordhorn-Lingen)

Settling down and acclimatizing to the new league seem like foreign words for Jaime Fernandez. The Spanish signing from HSG Nordhorn-Lingen had a great start to the season and entered directly into the selection for the 2nd HBL player of the month. In the very first game of the season, HSG coach Daniel Kubes bet

already on the newcomer and probably did everything right. Jaime Fernandez scored five goals in his second HBL debut against TV Hüttenberg and celebrated his first victory.

Fernandez was particularly noticeable in the fourth game of the season against TuSEM Essen. He’s been performing since the beginning. He scored his first goal in the first minute, followed by nine more. But that’s not all: he won the ball with two steals and as an assist twice he was involved in a total of twelve of HSG’s 29 goals. He had game day best HPI (90) in the game and made the team for game day four.

Another newcomer to the league is running for election as left back for the 2nd HBL Player of the Month! Ihor Turchenko is the top scorer for Ukrainian club HC Motor Zaporizhzhia and has the highest average HPI (77) of any second division player in his position. At just 21 years old, powerhouse backcourt player Linke is the youngest player to make the HBL Second Player of the Month selection. Although HC Motor was only able to secure their first victory on the fourth game day, Turchenko was a reliable part of the offensive. On average, he scored 5.6 goals per game.

Centre-back: Ian Weber (TV Hüttenberg)

Ian Weber is no stranger to looking for the 2nd HBL Player of the Month! He was already a candidate for central defender last season. He is particularly known for his consistency, even over the seasons, and is one of the leaders of TV Hüttenberg. As a traditional 7m bowler, Weber is by far TVH’s most successful goalscorer. In four games he was indirectly involved in 36 goals: he scored 28 himself and played the crucial pass to score a goal in eight others.

In the victory against HC Empor Rostock, Weber was in the squad for the second match day as a nine-time top scorer and three-time assist provider. He shared first place in the top day HPI (90) with Florian Billek. In the next game against the LIQUI MOLY HBL relegated HBW Balingen-Weilstetten, he surpassed his best performance to date by two goals. On his account went eleven goals and two assists.

Back right: Jannek Klein (Eulen Ludwigshafen)

Jannek Klein is the first of two candidates from Eulen Ludwigshafen’s shortlist. The 2022/23 season is already his fourth season in which he appears for the owls. In the first game of the season, the Owls faced a real opponent piece with the relegated team from Balingen. However, Klein wasn’t fazed and delivered an outstanding first game of the new season. He was the Owls’ top scorer with eight goals and also had four assists. His HPI for the day was 79, his personal best in September. Klein built on this performance in the next game. He once again stood out as the team’s top scorer, contributing seven goals to Il Gufo’s total of 23 goals. With 37 goals, he is one of the best offensive players in the league.

Right wing: Florian Billek (HSC 2000 Coburg)

Florian Billek is also no stranger to voting for the second HBL player of the month at the right wing position. He should still be remembered by some as a former top scorer. Also in the past season he was selected twice for the 2nd HBL player of the month, so it is all the less surprising that he again drew attention to himself at the beginning of this season with top values. The southpaw is the most successful goalscorer at HSC 2000 Coburg. After all games in September, he leads with the best HPI average (81) and second in the list of goalscorers of the 2nd HBL. He is also the only candidate to have made the match day squad twice.

In the games against Constance, Nettelstedt-Lübbecke and Hagen, he was the top scorer in the entire game with seven and twice with nine goals. In the match against SG BBM Bietigheim he shared this place, but was still Coburg’s top scorer. In total, the 34-year-old has scored 36 goals, averaging 7.2 goals per game.

District centre: Maximilian Haider (Eulen Ludwigshafen)

The second candidate that the Eulen Ludwigshafens have in their ranks is Captain Max Haider. The rim runner performed incomparably impressively, especially on offense. His average shooting rate is 100% after all four games. Haider scored at least twice in every match and didn’t miss a single shot. 16 shot attempts went 16 times on goal. His qualities were not only in scoring, Haider is also the fulcrum of the Owls in central defence. He has already blocked four shots on opponents’ goal.

In the last game he reached his personal peak. In the first win of the season against SG BBM Bietigheim, the number 14 was the top scorer with seven goals.
