The leaders of the blood donor association of the cantons of Mirecourt and Dompaire had issued a worrying alert a few months ago concerning dwindling blood stocks. The call had been heard by donors who had responded in large numbers to the last meetings.
However, the organizers of the collections and the EFS managers do not want to relax their efforts. The volume of blood stocks is proving to be decisive for the sick and injured.
“With the summer holidays, stocks have dwindled. The mobilisation of the whole of France is essential to meet blood needs. The French blood establishment Grand Est, in partnership with the association of voluntary blood donors, is therefore organising a new blood drive in Mirecourt,” explains Bernard Dufour, president of the association of blood donors in the canton.
The appointment for the blood drive is scheduled for Friday, September 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Espace Flambeau.
“To donate blood, you must be between 18 and 70 years old and weigh more than 50 kg,” adds the president, who is keen to collect large volumes in order to meet demand.
Teams of health professionals take blood samples while volunteers show their dedication by offering donors a drink and a sandwich.
