Scandal filmmaker Gaspar Noé (58, “Enter The Void”, “Climax”) surprises us with a calm, surprisingly profound drama.
Story: We meet a man (Dario Argento, 81) and a woman (Françoise Lebrun, 77) in their cramped apartment full of memories. This is where they spent their whole lives together. While he’s desperately trying to write one last book, she’s dying of Alzheimer’s disease…
Noé works with a split screen. On the left we see what the woman is doing, on the right the man. He makes it clear to us how they no longer live with each other, but side by side. It’s hard, heartbreaking stuff!
Conclusion: A film that gets to your kidneys. Because he scares, but also makes us think about those we love. Noé has never been more emotional. And probably never better.
