The MINT coordination office in Vorarlberg invited to the online event.
The 1st Vorarlberg MINT Festival took place last week. Due to the current Corona measures, the event was carried out as an online event. The studio was set up in the Wifi room in Dornbirn and broadcast from there on YouTube. Provincial governor Barbara Schöbi-Fink, Provincial Councilor Marco Tittler, Chamber of Commerce President Hans Peter Metzler and Education Director Evelyn Marte-Stefani opened the festival with greetings and together with Christian Lampert from WISTO and Andreas Kappaurer from the Education Directorate, the importance of the MINT initiative in education and Economy before.

In her opening, state governor Barbara Schöbi-Fink spoke of enthusiasm for MINT and the aim of the strategy to promote the talents and gifts of children. “We want to encourage children’s interest in MINT subjects. We want to support them to become good at them,” said the state governor. We are therefore very happy that the funding projects are well on their way to being implemented and are bringing MINT to all parts of the country. For Provincial Councilor Marco Tittler, the initiative is “a timelessly important topic for Vorarlberg as a business location, which is also an essential foundation for making Vorarlberg the most promising living space for children”. He particularly emphasizes the successful cooperation between schools and companies. “My thanks go to all the companies involved and the educational institutions,” said Tittler. Education director Marte Stefani emphasizes the “valuable opportunities that the networking of business and education opens up for all students”.

The technical contributions in the first part started with miniMath, mathematics in elementary education, led to Code4Talents and led to the Walgenau platform. The second subject was about the higher school levels: School of Creative Solutions, an initiative of the Upper Austria University of Education, showed solution-oriented strategies for MINT teaching, the Dornbirn University of Applied Sciences showed its school cooperation projects, the Schillerstraße high school presented its school program at MINT and a former pupil reported on studying at the Technical University of Munich. At the end of the specialist part, there was an insight into the digital education program at the Vorarlberg University of Education.

Award for ten impressive projects
The ten projects that were honored by the state, the Chamber of Commerce and the Education Directorate as part of the MINT funding competition 2020 also had a big stage. Each project presented itself with a self-made video, these videos showed in an original way the wide variety of projects and their sponsors. In personal conversations in the studio and in live broadcasts, passion and joy in MINT topics were shown. Not only technical knowledge, but also skills such as networking, openness, curiosity, teamwork and “questioning” are important in order to shape the future and the technologies. “Rich opportunities through MINT” – this was the motto of the panel discussion, to which MINT coordinator Andrea Huber invited guests from education and business to the stage. The director of the HTL Bregenz Claudia Vögel, Verena Fastenbauer from the FH Vorarlberg discussed with Udo Filzmaier, managing director of SIE Solutions and Hannes Tschütscher from Omicron.

Young talents carry STEM enthusiasm all over the country
WKV President Hans Peter Metzler sees the role of the Chamber of Commerce not only in supporting companies in the state, but also in promoting the living space and people is a driver for supporting Vorarlberg’s MINT strategy. “Shaping the future through enthusiastic young people secures the location and is an important success factor. Talents must be promoted, skills strengthened,” said Metzler. The MINT initiative as part of the brand program is an important component in the development of Vorarlberg into the most promising living space for children.
–
The MINT Festival showed the exciting range of topics and practical fields of application of mathematics, computer science, natural science and technology and impressively demonstrated the large Vorarlberg network of sponsors and sponsors. The enthusiasm that is carried into the country is contagious and should inspire many more children, young people, teachers and companies.
