Von der Leyen with an emergency move for the gas

The European Commission (EC) has called on European Union (EU) countries to cut demand for natural gas by 15% in the coming winter months to overcome Russia’s “blackmail” for energy supplies.

In a statement, the European Commission also asked the member states to grant it special powers to enforce the necessary reduction in demand if Russia cuts off gas supplies to Europe, writes BGNES.

Russia is blackmailing us. Russia is using energy as a weapon and that’s why in any case, whether it’s a partial main cut of Russian gas or a complete cut off… Europe must be ready,” EC President Ursula von der Leyen told reporters der Leyen.
