2023-tall:
Volvo sold like never before in 2023, but the share of electric cars is still modest.
In 2023, Volvo sold 708,716 cars, which the company says in a press release is a new global sales record, and an increase of 15 percent compared to the previous year.
In November, it was the fossil-fuel cars, without wiring, that increased the most. The figures from Volvo also show that electric cars had a weaker December than in 2022, but for the whole year, electric cars have seen great growth.
Volvo reports that 113,419 electric cars were sold throughout 2023, 70 percent more than in 2022. This means that electric cars accounted for 16 percent of the brand’s sales.
The plug-in hybrids sold 152,561 copies. The cars with cables therefore accounted for a total of 36 per cent of total sales.
Volvo has previously said that by 2025 half of all Volvos sold will be electric. That means the upcoming EX30 and EX90 electric cars have a job to do.
The company’s best-selling models globally in 2023 were the Volvo XC60 with 228,646 cars, the XC40 with 200,670 cars and the XC90 with 107,549 cars.
In Norway, 8,882 new Volvos were delivered in 2023, which gave a market share of seven percent. Here, the proportion of electric cars was 72 per cent. The best-selling model was the XC40 with 5,025 cars, all electric cars.
