Volvo – like other car manufacturers – is struggling with delivery problems due to the worldwide shortage of semiconductors and other parts. This has been causing production hiccups for several months now. About 6,500 employees work at Volvo Gent; the Ghent factory is the largest industrial employer in Flanders.

It is not unexpected that there are still problems with high-tech production this quarter. Other car manufacturers are also experiencing problems. It is not yet clear whether there will be production hiccups at Volvo Car Gent next week.

Volvo Trucks, another important vehicle manufacturer in the port of Ghent, has been informed that there are no new production problems for the time being due to the persistent shortage of semi-conductors.
