It is the Swedish car website Carup, which reveals that Volvo has made a gearbox for electric cars.
This year’s car is recalled: Can roll off
Patent
The company has these days obtained a patent on this, and the website writes that this “apparently” can be found in the XC90 sequel Embla, which was revealed earlier this year. This will be on the market already this autumn.
– We have promised to launch a certain number of new models a year, including a new electric car a year. This autumn, we will present the new electric model that will be extremely important to us, said Volvo CEO Jim Rowan earlier this spring.
The new gearbox will be two-speed, and Carup believes it is also likely that it will also be found in Polestar 3, which will also be launched this fall.
The prices are clear
No lever
The gearbox is equipped with two wet clutches that provide so-called “powershifts” that are barely noticeable to the driver, which – which according to the patent – is important in the premium segment.
A similar solution is found today in the premium cars Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.
However, there will be no traditional gear lever, the gear changes are the electronics that take care of. It is also likely to be used on the rear drive, as this is used the most.
