In the vicinity of Schiphol, dozens of volunteers have been looking for Pandora for six days. The two-year-old Staffordshire terrier escaped from the KLM Dierenhotel at the airport last weekend. Pandora had just arrived from Johannesburg at the time and would later fly on to Dublin.
“It’s like they’ve lost a child,” Tony Pereira, the father of one of the dog’s owners, told NH News. His daughter and her partner recently moved from South Africa to Dublin and had their two dogs transported by KLM. Things went wrong during the transfer at Schiphol: Pandora fled when an employee of the KLM Dierenhotel walked the dog for a pee and left a door open.
Since then, volunteers from the Aid Group for Missing Dogs NH/ZH have been combing the area around the airport. Since yesterday they get help from Pereira. He came over from Ireland because he thinks the dog won’t come out until she hears his voice.

The search for Pandora has been successful in that the dog was seen for the second time this afternoon near the McDonald’s branch in Hoofddorp, near the A4 highway. Earlier this week, volunteers saw her walking in much the same spot. “So she still stays there. But that doesn’t mean we can get to her,” says a spokeswoman for the Aid Group.
KLM has apologized. The company has called in the Dierenhotel, the animal ambulance and the police to help search.
