Volunteer Coordinator Responds to PKS Pushback on Kaesang’s Mayoral Candidacy in Depok

Volunteer coordinator reward The Pranowo Center or GP Center for Depok City, Jori Adrian Natama, responded to the MCC which pushed President Joko Widodo’s youngest son (Jokowi) Kaesang Home did not run for Mayor of Depok. Jori considered PKS excessive.

Jori said he would continue to escort Kaesang until he actually gave a statement that he was ready to contest in Depok. He also mentioned that the existence of PKS was disrupted because of Kaesang’s presence.

“So people may think that PKS is afraid of disrupting its existence with Mas Kaesang’s presence in Depok City, and we volunteers will continue to guard this until Mas Kaesang actually gives a statement that he is ready to contest the Depok mayoral election,” he said.

Jori said that GP Center Depok volunteers were still consolidating and communicating with Kaesang volunteers in Depok. He said that his party was giving time for PKS to correct mistakes in managing Depok City.

“And we volunteers continue to consolidate and communicate with other Kaesang volunteers who have started mushrooming in Depok City. For PKS, which is still leading, we are giving time to be more focused, correcting mistakes after mistakes in managing this city until the 2024 elections,” he added.

Previously, PSI encouraged President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep, to run as a candidate for Mayor of Depok. PKS, which is the bearer of the current Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Depok, thinks that Kaesang is better off running in the Pilwalkot Solo.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairman of the PKS Syuro Council, Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW). He initially emphasized that PKS was ready to compete with anyone in the Depok Pilkada.

“No, we have never seen other (candidates) as a threat, have not seen him as a competitor, but also a partner in democracy, including in the Pilkada. So if Mas Kaesang really dares to go to Depok, go ahead. That’s his right. PKS is certainly ready to welcome, in the sense of competing,” said HNW at the Senayan Complex, Jakarta, Monday (29/5/2023).

He said PKS had never thought of running for Kaesang in the Depok Pilwalkot. Moreover, he said, Kaesang was not a PKS cadre and not a Depok person.

“At first it didn’t occur to us to nominate Mas Kaesang in Depok, he is not from Depok, not a PKS person and doesn’t have a track record in Depok, it’s strange to suddenly go to Depok,” he said.

“I think he is also confused, why is there someone running for Depok? he continued.

HNW then said that Kaesang would be better off running for Mayor of Solo instead. He said let someone other than Kaesang take care of Depok.

“Solo is his place, Depok is so so, he’s also not from Depok. I think he should just nominate in Solo, let Depok be taken care of by others,” said Hidayat.
