Cáritas Diocesana de Oviedo has organized a Volunteer Camp for young people, aged between 17 and 30, which will take place between July 1 and 8 in Asturias.
This is an activity in which a group of young people voluntarily and selflessly commit to participate, for a period of time, in social intervention work accompanying different groups (children, the elderly, people at risk or in situations of exclusion ) and that is complemented with other activities.
The objective pursued is to bring the reality that these people live closer to the young people who attend, motivating and helping them to become aware of the importance of their presence and their collaboration to help people with few resources, while reinforcing values as important in our society as solidarity.
The activity goes beyond a theoretical knowledge of a reality, it is an experience that makes them reflect on their lives and shows that we all need to be accompanied, to grow as people in the midst of difficulties.
The Volunteer Camp is made up of three areas of action that will be carried out in a combined way:
Discover social volunteering: They will be able to volunteer in a project with the elderly, minors or homeless.
Get to know yourself, train yourself and reflect: They will receive training on the social reality with which they are going to work. There will be moments to reflect and share with the group the experiences lived, as well as personal work that favors personal growth.
Share time with other young people: There will be moments of leisure, discovering new places, relaxation activities…
Cáritas is always committed to promoting volunteering, raising awareness about the reality with which it works and at the same time awakening commitment, especially among younger people. This experience is a means to promote values such as coexistence, tolerance, solidarity, and participation, among others.
