Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana to Proceed Despite Flooding in 2025

Valencian Bike Race Will Proceed Despite Devastating Floods

The 2025 Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana cycling race will go ahead as scheduled despite the devastating floods that recently ravaged the region, organizers have confirmed. The race, a crucial early-season event for many of cycling’s top contenders, is slated to take place from February 5th to 9th.

The announcement comes as the Valencia region continues grappling with the aftermath of torrential downpours in late October, which claimed over 200 lives and impacted hundreds of thousands more.

Organizers took to social media to reassure fans, stating, “We want to confirm that the 76th Edition of our race is not in danger.

As we announced months ago, the VCV 2025 will take place from February 5 to 9 and we hope to count on your support in a very special edition due to the recent events in the Comunitat Valenciana.”

The floods severely impacted the region, leaving a trail of destruction that included damaged buildings, roads, and vital infrastructure. The race organizers themselves suffered significant losses, with their warehouses inundated and critical materials rendered unusable.

"The vast majority of the material we use for the organisation of the VCV has been rendered useless.

In addition, a good part of the human team of the VCV organisation resides in the affected area , so they have also suffered the tragedy first hand with significant material and human losses,” organizers said in their statement.

Despite these unprecedented challenges, the races organizers are determined to proceed with the event.

While some planned routes traverse areas hit hard by the floods, they are actively working with authorities to assess the feasibility and explore potential modifications if necessary.

"It is true that some of the routes planned for this VCV 2025 pass through areas affected by the tragedy.

At this time, we are working with the authorities to study the viability of these routes and, if necessary, propose some modification to the planned route to ensure the proper celebration of the VCV 2025.”

The resilience of the organizers and their commitment to the event stand as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Valencia region.
