The party called it “terrible that transgressive behavior could have taken place within Volt and that the people involved did not feel safe to speak out on this scale earlier”.
“No Unsustainable Behavior”
Gundogan fights that she has exhibited inappropriate behavior. According to the MP, she has still not been told what the reports are. Gundogan adds that she hasn’t had a decent chance to respond. “Instead of being the judge who can judge me, Volt himself has played a judge and judged me. This does not fit in with the rule of law.”
The MP also says that it is “besides the truth” that she did not want to participate in the investigation. According to her, the research firm is not independent and only wants to participate in a “truly independent” investigation.
In addition to the defamation and slander report, Gündogan previously had preliminary relief proceedings against Volt cockedto challenge her suspension. That should be Tuesday. She now does not want to make any further substantive announcements. She does say that she still has every confidence in the members of Volt. “I will therefore continue to work for my members and for those who voted for me.”
Failed
According to Volt’s statement, the party leadership itself has also failed. Dassen, Muller and De Leeuw offer their apologies to those involved. They want to avoid situations like this in the future and are therefore going to review the way they screen candidates. It should also be made clearer where people with complaints can go.
Gundogan said before that she would remain a Member of Parliament anyway. If she does, the total number of factions in the House will be twenty. MPs are elected in a personal capacity and even if they are expelled from their group, they can keep their seat.
