The lawyers of the 50-year-old man from Volos, who killed his 33-year-old brother-in-law and rapist of his daughter, last January, are expected to submit a request for release from prison.
The 50-year-old has been remanded in custody since January 22 at the behest of the Three-Member Council of Misdemeanors of Volos. While he had already spent a week under house arrest due to a disagreement between the prosecutor and the investigator.
According to information from taxydromos.gr, the 50-year-old is being held in a special ward in Larissa prisons, not with inmates with serious convictions. At the same time, he maintains almost daily contact with his three children.
The timeline of the crime
It is recalled that the assailant killed the 33-year-old with a hunting rifle and immediately afterwards surrendered to the Police.
A little while earlier, he had learned from his now 18-year-old daughter that the 33-year-old brother of his second wife had been raping her since she was 9 years old and had recently been blackmailing her by publishing video material.
“I regretted”
“I was in defense, I regretted” said the defendant in his testimony. While his lawyer argued that it was an accident, as he fired the gun.
“My daughter confided in me that when she was raped, my little boy was also there, who is now nine years old and whom my brother-in-law left alone in the other room, as he closed the door of the room where he was with my daughter” the father is reported to have said at another point in the deposition.
He also claimed that his daughter reached the point of attempting suicide after what she went through at the hands of her 33-year-old uncle.
“My motherless daughter needs me to support her psychologically and financially as she is emotionally damaged. And he has reached the point of attempting suicide. I didn’t know that, her teacher and the psychologist told me.”
He had also stated that his and his family’s livelihood, primarily his minor child who is 9 years old and his daughter who is a student at the University depend solely on his work as they do not have any other income.
The determination of the trial is expected in about a year.
“He did what he had to do as a father”
The girls’ descriptions of what happened are consistent and emphasize that their father did everything he could to protect them.
“He did it because he wanted to protect us. We all went with the lawyer to the Police, while I also informed our other sister to come to the Police,” said one of the 18-year-old’s sisters, with her other sister adding:
“I spoke on the phone with my sister and was informed that our father did something very bad to the 33-year-old. As he told my sister, ‘he did what he had to do as a father.'”
The 36-second video in which the 33-year-old allegedly blackmailed the 18-year-old is also under the microscope of the investigations.
As she herself testified to the authorities, she has been taken without knowing it to her parents’ house. She herself was no older than 14 years old, while the 33-year-old’s hands and tattoo are clearly visible in the video.
