A large fire that has caused significant damage, broke out tonight late afternoon in the 2nd VIPE of Volos and burned down warehouses and other storage areas at the facilities of the olive oil company MANOS SA, which have been rented to another company.
The Fire Service of Volos immediately sounded the alarm because of the flammable materials that were burning, since there were large quantities of oil, biodiesel, sunflower seeds and straw in the warehouses.
18 fire engines, many water tankers from the municipalities of Volos and Riga Feraio, as well as private construction machinery are working on the big fire at the Volos II Fire Department.

In the company’s premises occupying an area of 5000 meters, there are 5 material storage buildings, and many stored materials were hurriedly transferred to other company storage areas. The fire department has deployed all its forces in Volos, while forces from Larissa and Trikala have rushed to reinforce. The fire brigade investigation is looking for the causes.
With the fire fully under control, a large force of firefighting forces is expected to remain in the area, because the materials are all flammable and may rekindle the fires, even after several 24 hours.
The deputy governor of Thessaly, Anna-Maria Papadimitriou, also rushed to the fire, which was described as very dangerous, and was watching the efforts to extinguish the fire.
