Change of chip and a tough challenge in Menorca. Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna faces today the first leg of the round of 16 of the CEV Volleyball Cup 2025. At 7:00 p.m. Canary Islands time, the Tenerife team will face Avarca de Menorca, the Lagunero club’s rival in the League Iberdrola. The closest precedent dates back to this same season, where on matchday 3 of the competition the team led by Facundo Morando achieved victory in the fifth set at the Ciutadella Municipal Pavilion, where this first round of 16 clash will be played.
Tenerife Libby’s arrives at the European match occupying fourth position in the Iberdrola League, with 14 points. For its part, Avarca de Menorca, second classified with 18 points, has been fine-tuning its game as the days progress. The Balearic Islands only have two defeats – both in the tie-break – against Hidramar and Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna, on matchday 1 and 3 respectively.
The blue and white coach analyzed the match using the example of the first match in which they faced each other. «The two teams worked and were improving since the last time they faced each other. The result will be the product of many things, not just what happened in the last game. We have to win on both courts in the best way we can. So we are going to Menorca with the same objective as always.
Eugenia Nosach points out that “they change the chip” and begin to think about the European match knowing that they have had “little time to prepare for it.” «We don’t care, we are determined that we will do our best. Furthermore, we have the ability to play any away game at the same level as our home games,” he says. Regarding the match played against Avarca de Menorca in the League a few days ago, the Argentine opponent adds that they have shown “several times that they are capable of overcoming adverse situations.” One of them was against Avarca de Menorca in the League, which emotionally was “a great game that added a lot.” «In any case, I don’t think it will be a similar match, both they and we are different teams. “I don’t expect either the same Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna or the same Avarca from Menorca,” explains Nosach.
Finally, Inés Villa confirms that “many things have changed in both teams.” «We know that at home they are a tough team, we don’t know what they will come out with, but we don’t care. “We are going to concentrate on what we do to be able to pass.” Likewise, he concludes that they “love” that the second leg is at home because they feel “a lot” for the fans in each game.
