Volleyball: Montpellier wins against Nantes and flies to the top of the standings

Three days after having closed the European page against Moscow, the MCVUC resumed its forward march in the league by dominating Nantes (3-1) this Sunday, March 7.

The European dream is over, but the title goal this season has not gone away. Undisputed bosses of the French championship, the Montpellier residents are now 10 points ahead of their runner-up Cannes.

A lead that they owe to their success this Sunday in Castelnau against Nantes, penultimate in the standings. Left foot to the ground, the Hérault people quickly showed a real difference in level compared to the Ligériens.

And yet, this match was not so simple as the first points would have suggested. After a second set largely dominated by Olivier Lecat’s men, the NRMV played a nasty trick on the locals.

Pushed into their entrenchments, the Montpellier fought to try to end the match in three dry sets, even obtaining a match point. But Nantes did not want to leave the Hérault with such a severe score.

Forced to play a fourth round, the teammate of Joachim Panou, elected MVP of the match, had to continue working to complete this match with a final score of 3-1. Next meeting on Wednesday for the derby against Sète.
