In play-downs, defeats are almost forbidden. Grenoble and Cesson Saint-Brieuc have understood this well. At the end of a first set marked by a low success rate in service on both sides of the field, Grenoble took the lead. Marques Santos, all in power, and twice, allows Cesson Saint-Brieuc to stay in contact (24-22). Too late, the Isérois did not miss the opportunity to take the lead (1-0, 25-22).
The Cessonnais regain color in the second set. The Brouck – Marques Santos duo is untenable. Icord and his relaxation keep Grenoble alive, but, better in the match, the Costarmoricains widen the gap and take up to six points in advance (16-22). The match turned, Cesson equalizes.
Omnipresent Santos brands
The visitors start the third set as they finished the second: on top speed. For their part, the Aurhalpins retreat. The men of player-coach Valentin Brouck take advantage of this. Cesson leads two sets to one.
The fourth looks like a final round. On the one hand, Graça works miracles for the Guc, on the other, Augas is decisive at the reception. The set is tight, tempers are heating up. At 15-18, Guillaume Schmelzer asks for time out, and Malherbe encourages his players. The Isérois, in the mind, react, but Cesson, in place, is relentless. Cesson won three sets to one in less than two hours.
Next meeting next Saturday, in Sterreden, to chain a second victory against Arles.
