Volleyball: “It’s not going to get better…” why Spacer’s Toulouse are launching a call for donations

the essentials The Spacer’s, who host the Plessis Robinson this Wednesday October 23 (7:30 p.m.), have launched a participatory prize pool to help the club financially.

Since money is the crux of the matter and the economy of sport in general, and of volleyball in particular, is suffering greatly, the Spacer’s have decided to launch on their website (spacerstoulouse.fr) a participatory prize pool. “The objective of this call for donations is to continue to develop volleyball in Toulouse, professionalize it and better structure ourselves” reveals Clément Augustin.

“Subsidies are falling regularly, this is not going to get better, and if we are continually looking for private partners that is not enough,” explains the Toulouse administrative manager. Very attached to training, the club is proud of its workforce composed mainly of young French people but if “training is our identity it comes at a cost” also affirms our interlocutor.

Poitiers had recovered 30,000 euros

Sportingly the recipe works since the Spacer’s finished the last exercise in sixth place, thus qualifying for the play-offs for the first time since 2017. The club has also managed to retain the loyalty of a public who recognize themselves in the fighting values displayed by this group.

“We know that many people come with pleasure to watch the show put on by the team and it is this target that we are aiming for,” says Clément Augustin. “We voluntarily decided to offer 50 euros as a minimum amount so that everyone can participate,” explains the latter.

The two matches scheduled in forty-eight hours at the Palais des Sports, this evening against Plessis Robinson and Friday against the reigning French champion Saint-Nazaire, will allow the leaders to communicate more fully on the subject. As a reminder, the Poitiers club recently collected 30,000 euros through this means and last season the Spacer’s had already appealed for internal donations (managers, subscribers, licensees) which brought in 17,000 euros. “We would like to double this amount” concludes the administrative manager.
