Volleyball – Dresden – female volleyball players from Dresden travel to the CEV Cup in Turkey – sport

Dresden (AP) – The volleyball women of the Dresdner SC officially start the European CEV Cup on January 26th. In Istanbul, Turkey, they face the Slovenian team from Nova KBM Branik Maribor in the round of 16. In the event of a victory, the quarter-finals against the Turkish team from Galatasaray HDI Istanbul, which will move into the quarter-finals without a fight due to the corona-related cancellation of SC Potsdam, are on the agenda a day later.

The Dresden women entered the round of 16 without a fight. The tournament in Istanbul was originally planned for December, but at the request of the two German participants, the European association had postponed the tournament to January.

Due to the current situation and strict entry and exit regulations, those responsible at DSC and SC Potsdam tried again to find a solution to relocate the venue, but this time in vain, as the five-time German champion announced on Friday. While Potsdam is currently in quarantine in the team due to corona cases and has therefore now canceled participation in the CEV Cup, the Elbe city residents have decided to travel to Turkey.

“It was not an easy decision because there were so many points to shed light on. Of course, the health of the team is our top priority. Nevertheless, we are fighting for our sporting chances in the current situation. The European Cup is exactly such an opportunity”, DSC Managing Director Sandra Zimmermann said and emphasized: “We will take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure safety.”
