The Héraultais, in their room, were not able to worry Cannes (0-3) this Saturday, October 26.
Brilliant in their last three matches, the Sétois suffered this Saturday in their Vié room. And this was quickly verified. Trailing 5-8 in the first set, they thought they would come back within one point after a block from Elser but the video challenge said otherwise (8-11). This was also the common theme of the evening: the balance systematically tilted in favor of the people of Cannes. Which gained confidence, especially in the service. An ace from Jacobsen widened the gap (10-14), before a devastating pass from Biglino which left the back lines without a response (13-20).
A reception under construction
Arago nevertheless managed to get back to 18-21 with Schlienger also signing an ace, but Pierotti immediately responded with, to make the message clear, two aces (18-24). Under these conditions, the first set was logically completed (20-25).
Sète then seemed to revolt by taking the advantage at 5-2, but the score returned to 6-6 on… an ace from Pierotti. The change of libero did nothing more, Sète continued to suffer in reception and, after an attack and a new ace from Biglino, the Azuréens made a first break (10-12).
However, the suspense remained with Arago going from 13-16 to 17-16, but it did not last long. For not having been able to hold the reception and missing the few opportunities for counter-attacks, the Sétois bowed 23-25.
Not enough
And unfortunately, the observation would be the same in the following set. Led 3-7, Arago came back to 7-7. Trailing 9-12, he came back to 13-13 before two painful aces from Pierotti (13-16). After a series of defenses, Sète even went ahead on an attack from Elser (18-17) but the energy was on the side of Cannes who quickly took control again at 18-19 and never let go (21-25). It’s time to recharge the batteries.
