Six years after his departure, the star of the French volleyball team, Julien Lyneel, will find Montpellier-Castelnau. A year after central Nicolas Le Goff, the team will therefore welcome another French international next season. The receiver-striker (1.92 m, 31 years old, 219 caps) chose to return to his training club he had left in 2015.
“After several years abroad, the summers with the France team were really the right time for me, says the left-hander. I had this need to reconnect with a “normal” social life, to find my loved ones. The current context prompted me to make this choice, especially since Montpellier-Castelnau presents an ambitious sports project. “
A bit of “Blues” at the heart of the club
Recall that the club coached by Olivier Lecat, who also made very nice shots on the market by recruiting the third point of the Blues, Théo Faure, and the great hope Célestin Cardin (1.97 m, 21 years old), finished the regular season of the League A championship in first place.
For the past six years, Julien Lyneel has played in Rzeszów, where he became vice-champion of Poland (2015-2016), Ravenna (Italy, 2016-2017), Shanghai (Chinese champion in 2017-2018), Jastrzebski Wegiel ( Poland, 2018-2020), then Vibo Valentia (Italy) this season, where he played very little due to a right shoulder injury.
The neo-Montpellier is currently playing in the League of Nations (VNL) within the France team, with which he won the Euro in 2015, the World League in 2015 and 2017, and a silver medal at the VNL 2018.
“My arrival does not necessarily mean that Montpellier-Castelnau will be the No. 1 favorite for the title, relativizes Lyneel. League A has grown incredibly densely in recent seasons, especially Tours, Cannes or Narbonne. It’s a very interesting competition where it won’t be easy to shine. “
A league where, with Le Goff and Lyneel, but also Kevin Tillie in Tours, Daryl Bultor in Tourcoing and Antonin Rouzier in Plessis-Robinson, the France team effect will work in full force.
