Volleyball and basketball are also in the Hamburg focus on Eimsbütteler TV

Hamburg. ETV expels data scouts from the hall at the women’s basketball game. The ETV volleyball players bet on individual points.

The German top leagues have been allowed to play for a few weeks now Amateur football are happy because their games have been removed from the betting providers’ live betting offerings. When fighting against the Data ScoutsThe Oberliga Hamburg was a pioneer, which passes on the live data of the games in real time to the betting providers and in this way increases the risk of match manipulation through higher odds.

“The Hamburg amateur football clubs have played an exemplary role in drying up the market for live betting,” says former gambling addict Thomas Melchior, who volunteers to observe the betting market and the activities of the data scouts for the clubs and provides them with tips.

Betting market has shifted to volleyball, basketball and co

But no light without shadows. Meanwhile, says Melchior, the betting market has shifted. “Now betting providers are increasingly offering live bets on volleyball, basketball, ice hockey and handball. Namely on games in leagues on which, as in amateur football, betting is not permitted in Germany according to the State Treaty on Gambling.” Hamburg teams from Eimsbütteler TV are also affected by this in volleyball and basketball.

ETV received a tip from Melchior last Sunday. At the home game of the 2nd Women’s Basketball Bundesliga North against Bender Baskets Grünberg, a data scout was sitting in the Hohe Weide sports hall. The game was therefore included in the live betting offerings of many betting providers. The ETV acted.

Data scout was expelled from the hall

The ETV basketball coordinator Christian Jeß tracked down the data scout and stopped the game events from being passed on. He expelled him from the hall. Live betting on the Internet then stopped. “We are very surprised that it was possible to bet on our women’s second division game. We find this very unpleasant and will continue to exercise our domestic rights towards data scouts,” Jeß told the Abendblatt.

The ETV women’s and men’s volleyball teams also received visitors. The second division matches of the ETV women against Volleys Borken and the ETV men against VV Humans Essen were visited by a data scout. The ETV chairman Frank Fechner was present at the men’s game himself, but was unable to locate the data scout in the hall.

More on the topic

“In volleyball, live betting is particularly absurd. You can bet on every single point,” says Melchior. ETV volleyball coordinator Ulrich Kahl was amazed that such detailed live bets could be placed on ETV games on the international betting market.

“I’m putting my hand in the fire for our players. They don’t do stupid things in the game for a few bucks. But I still view these live bets critically, as there is also a risk of gambling addiction for the bettors,” explained Kahl.

Live betting: Hamburg Football Association wants to proceed rigorously

The recommendation of the Hamburg Football Association for its amateur clubs is unequivocal. “We recommend that every club exercise their house rules and expel the data scouts from the facility,” is the clear message from HFV President Christian Okun.

Due to the shift in the betting market, officials from other sports will now also have to deal with this issue.
