The Roman volleyball players played their last Elite match of the season this Saturday evening, April 29, against a major opponent: Rennes.
Between two teams with nothing left to play for on this last day of Play-down, the match began at a high pace, with players going blow for blow (6-6). Romans is more precise and determined in his offensives and puts the Bretonnes in difficulty (14-8).
For his last match in the jersey of the VBR, Poly de Parmentier showed his advantage, notably achieving an ace and a superb defensive block (19-15). Volley-Ball Romanais logically won the first set 25 to 20, putting themselves in the best possible position with a view to winning the match.
Under the impetus of Elena Babic, who has extended her contract for next season, Volley-Ball Romanais is in the lead in the second set (8-5). But the Rennes then recall that they did not come as tourists to the Drôme and pick up the score (16-15).
In reaction, the visitors are led 21-16 but come back to 21-21, restoring suspense at the end of the second set. It was without counting on the inevitable Elena Babic who alone put her team in the lead, and concluded the set with a solid defensive block (25-21).
The scenario is ideal for the club of the City of Jacquemart, which leads two sets to zero at the break, and which takes the opportunity to honor Poly de Parmentier.
The Rennes come back with other intentions in the third set, and are more aggressive in their game to take the lead on the scoreboard (4-8). Despite two timeouts set by Maximilien de Parmentier, Romans struggled to find solutions against the solid defense of the visitors (6-14).
The experienced Elena Babic and Poly de Parmentier sound the revolt on the VBR side and get back within reach of Rennes (17-18). Unfortunately, hope is short-lived. Rennes regains its senses, and wins the third set 25 to 18. The match is restarted.
Pushed by the public, the Roman volleyball players began the fourth set with desire and determination (10-4), to the delight of coach Maximilien de Parmentier. Without panicking, Rennes tries to hang on to keep the hope of coming back (15-12). But that’s not enough, and Romans, more solid, wins 25 to 20 in this fourth set, and achieves a great performance by winning against Rennes.
The season ends in apotheosis for the VBR, which will have given a lot of emotions to its supporters throughout the season.
