According to the CNBC server, the group issued a report about the change of the name of the American division by mistake a month in advance on Monday and subsequently removed it from its website. Subsequently, however, the US division confirmed the information.
–
The new name is intended to refer to the efforts of the German automobile group to establish itself in the USA with electric cars. At least for the time being, European markets should not be affected by this change.
–
According to the press release, the name change will take effect in May. The division described the move as a “public declaration of the company’s future investments in electromobility.”
–
She added that the designation Voltswagen will be used on all electrically powered models, while cars with traditional propulsion will have the VW emblem. Volkswagen means people’s car in German translation.
–
However, according to Reuters sources, the German concern will not rename its American division in the end. According to them, the press release in this spirit was just a marketing move, which was to draw attention to the group’s plans regarding electric cars.
–
The declared new name refers to the unit of electrical voltage volts. “We may change our K to T, but we are not changing the brand’s commitment to producing the best cars in its class,” said Scott Keogh, head of the US division.
–
According to him, the company believes that its future is a “popular electric car”. “Since the beginning of our transition to an electric future, we have said that we will build electric cars for millions, not just millionaires,” he said.
–
The only electric car Volkswagen currently offers in the United States is the ID.4 crossover. However, the ID family, which represents the brand’s electromobility, will expand into several other segments in the coming years. It is still on offer in Europe hatchback ID.3.

Volkswagen sees the future of the automotive sector in the electromobility with which it has big plans. By 2025 alone, it wants to invest about 35 billion euros (about 915 billion CZK) in the development of electric motors and invest another 27 billion euros (almost 706 billion CZK) in digitization. Thanks to electricity, digitization and eco-friendly operation, Volkswagen wants to achieve so-called climate neutrality by 2050.
