Volkswagen will stop combustion engines in Europe by 2035

The car brand Volkswagen wants to stop the sale of cars with combustion engines in Europe by 2035, in order to switch completely to electric vehicles. One of the top executives of the Volkswagen Group has announced this.

“We will make our entire fleet carbon neutral by 2050 at the latest. In Europe, we will exit the internal combustion engine market between 2033 and 2035,” sales director Klaus Zellmer said in an interview posted online on Sunday with the Bavarian newspaper Münchner Merkur.

The full switch to electric cars will take place “a little later” in the US and China, Zellmer continues. “In South America and Africa, due to the lack of political preconditions and infrastructure, it will take a little longer.”

“As a mass producer, VW has to adapt to the different speeds of transformation in the different regions,” it said. “For example, our competitors who mainly sell vehicles in Europe will face a much less complex transformation.”

Just a few days ago, it was announced that the Audi brand, which is also part of the Volkswagen Group, will no longer roll off the production line from 2033.
