Volkswagen wants to close at least three factories in Germany and cut tens of thousands of jobs, the carmaker’s works council says. The staff were informed of the plans. The automaker itself does not want to respond to the message.
The German car industry has not been doing so well for some time. Fewer cars are sold so profits fall. It was previously announced that Volkswagen would therefore want to lay off workers and possibly close factories in July 2025.
Pay cut
Daniela Cavallo, chairman of Volkswagen’s works council, said “even more products, trends and entire product lines will be cut.” The council also says in its plans that there will be a 10 percent pay cut for all employees.
