Volkswagen Virtus Sedan: The Unique Four-Door Convertible Built for the Brazilian President

There are not many four-door convertibles in the world due to problems with the torsional stiffness of such bodies. However, Volkswagen – or rather its Brazilian division – built one anyway. The car doesn’t even have a roof at all.

The Virtus sedan, which is technically related to the European field, served as its basis. However, the roof and the B and C pillars have disappeared. Above the headrests of the front seats – they are, note, a different shape than usual – a spreader bar has been added.

However, it is not only there to hold the car together – it is also a handle for the Brazilian president. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva drove this specially modified car during his visit to the factory in São Bernardo do Campo.

The car had no other work, it was created only for this purpose and will not be sold. It is the fifth such specially built car for a presidential visit; in 1959 and 1993 it was the Fusca model, as the Beetle was called in Brazil, then in 2003 it was the Polo sedan, and in 2005 it was a convertible from the Fox supermini.

The electric Volkswagen Golf will probably replace the ID.3 model, the GTI will remain in the offer
