Wolfsburg/Berlin. Many people in charge at the Volkswagen brand are starting to get nervous: Next Monday, April 17, at 2 p.m., VW will be celebrating the world premiere of its new, all-electric ID.7 mid-range sedan at the same time in Berlin, New York and China. The entry-level ID.7 should cost less than 60,000 euros
“Parallel to the e-offensive in Europe, we are also focusing on Asia and North America: the ID.7 is an extremely important model for Volkswagen in China, Canada and the USA,” said VW Sales Director Imelda Labbé on Thursday. The ID.7 will be built in Emden for the European and North American markets, and it will be built in two local plants for the Chinese market. It can be heard from VW circles that the ID.7 should start at less than 60,000 euros – although very few customers are likely to order this basic version. Experience shows that buyers are currently more likely to choose better-equipped model variants.

Sales in Europe and Asia are scheduled to start in 2023, North Americans should not be able to buy the almost five-meter-long sedan (Phaeton size) until 2024. The ID.7 is the sixth model in the ID family after the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6 and ID.Buzz. Volkswagen recently presented the ID.2all show car, which is to be launched as ID.2 in 2026. VW also officially presented the facelift model of the ID.3 a few weeks ago.
From 2026, VW will have the “widest e-portfolio of any manufacturer”
According to Labbé, “By 2026 Volkswagen will have the broadest e-portfolio of any manufacturer in Europe – from the entry-level model for less than 25,000 euros to a new all-electric compact SUV and the ID.7 as the top-of-the-line electric model.” In China, the ID.7 will be the VW Round off the offer according to ID.3, ID.4 and ID.6. In North America there is currently only the ID.4 available as an electric VW – the long version of the ID.Buzz is to follow later this year. The ID.7 is coming in 2024. Volkswagen intends to bring ten new electric cars onto the market by 2026.

So far, the ID.7 can only be seen and driven as a camouflaged prototype. The AZ/WAZ has already driven the new flagship and was enthusiastic. Due to its size (almost five meters!), the high-quality equipment and feel as well as the latest technical features, the all-electric sedan already borders on the luxury class segment. There are no longer any classic instruments in the new top model. The ID.7 relies on the interaction of a small, digital cockpit and a standard augmented reality head-up display. The touch sliders for the climate control under the display are now backlit. The ID.7 also shines with intelligent climate control.
GTX model will follow later
The ID.7, which will be launched in the two equipment and drive versions “Pro” and “Pro S”, is the first MEB model with a newly developed drive. The central module of this drive is a new electric motor with an output of 210 kW (286 hp) and a maximum torque of 545 Newton meters. A GTX sports model will follow later. The lithium-ion battery arranged in the vehicle floor will initially be available in two sizes: with a net energy content of 77 kWh in the Pro (gross: 82 kWh) and later in the ID.7 Pro S with a net energy content of 86 kWh ( gross: 91 kWh). The maximum ranges should be between 600 and 700 kilometers.
