Volkswagen unveils first all-electric sedan

Volkswagen’s ID line introduced itself in 2020 with the now popular ID. 3followed by the larger ID. 4, ID. 5 in ID. Buzz† Hatchbacks, crossovers, a van: a newfangled sedan was still missing. The ID. AERO has now been presented by Volkswagen as a concept car, but as with the previous electric models from Volkswagen, that concept will correspond in many ways to the final car.

The European production of the ID. AERO will start in 2023. The car is built on the same platform as the other ID cars, the modular MEB-platform† The lower, aerodynamic shape of the car provides more efficiency, according to Volkswagen. The most efficient ID. AERO with 77 kWh battery has a range of 620 kilometers. An ID. 3 with the same battery can reach 553 kilometers on a full charge, both according to the WLTP method.

Competitor for Tesla Model 3

Volkswagen may also be working on an electric station wagon. The new images of the ID. AERO resemble the Space Vizzion concept that Volkswagen showed in 2019, except that car is a station wagon.

Presumably the electric sedan will not go as ID. AERO on the road, but the car gets a number again: ID. 7 is obvious. With its business-like appearance and high mileage, the ID. AERO probably a competitor for the Tesla Model 3a popular electric car among business drivers.
