Volkswagen RooBadge: Innovative Technology to Repel Kangaroos and Ensure Road Safety

Volkswagen has announced an invention that makes some readers think about April 1st.

The German car company, in collaboration with the University of Melbourne, has developed the RooBadge (Roo – short for kangaroo in the Australian English version), a company logo with built-in speakers that emit a specially selected beam of sound to repel kangaroos and prevent the animals from entering the road.

In addition to the badge itself, Volkswagen Australia is also working on a separate license plate holder that integrates the RooBadge. It is seen here adapted to the Amarok pick-up truck, but will be adapted to other vehicles in the future, bringing access to animal protection technology to other manufacturers as well.

Volkswagen claims that the RooBadge is not an April Fool’s joke – the technology has been developed, tested and tested for three years, it will work in the vehicle using GPS and telemetry data, automatically emitting a sound signal in places where kangaroos are concentrated.

In the Amarok, it is offered as a plug-and-play solution, where the original badge is replaced by a high-tech VW logo.
