Volkswagen AG returns its hippie bus – and in an autonomous version, writes Bloomberg.
VW is preparing ID.Buzz with a fourth level of autonomy – which means that the car will be able to drive alone under certain conditions. It will be ready to transport people and goods in 2025.
The company is working on it with the startup Argo AI and is already testing at six locations in the United States, and will soon start moving on the streets of Munich.
The Argo system, in which VW and Ford invested $ 2.6 billion in 2020, is now in its fifth generation and uses a combination of lidar sensors, radar and cameras to detect objects up to 400 meters from the vehicle.
There are rumors among the specialized editions that the passenger version of ID.Buzz will get the more basic third level of autonomy and will go on sale in 2022. And the more expensive transport option will get a fourth.
