The Swiss Quantum Gruppe has made a bid of 7.5 billion euros for the Italian sports car brand Lamborghini. That writes the German trade magazine Automobilwoche.

Lamborghini is one of the brands of the German car giant Volkswagen. Quantum would make an offer with the British investor Centricus. The so-called ‘letter of intent’ will be sent tomorrow / Wednesday, the trade journal reports that the document could be viewed. There would be little enthusiasm for the bid at both VW and Audi. Lamborghini is part of Audi, the luxury brand of VW.
Quantum CEO Rea Stark Rajcic founded the new electric sports car brand Piech Automotive two years ago with Anton Piech. Piech is the son of the former VW patriarch Ferdinand Piëch.
Lamborghini employees would be guaranteed five years of job security. The VW management of the manufacturer from Sant’Agata Bolognese should be able to make the switch. According to Automobilwoche, Quatum and Centricus would have a strategic partnership with VW in mind after the purchase. Lamborghini must become a “showcase for a clean drive” for the takeover candidates. In Germany, Quantum would set up an innovation center for the development and production of batteries.
Audi’s reply is short and to the point. “Lamborghini is not for sale,” said a spokesman. “There is no discussion about that.” VW played with the idea of a separation from Lamborghini last year, but the plans were shelved in December.
Lamborghini announced last week an investment of 1.5 billion euros in the electrification of the brand. The first series-produced hybrid sports car should roll off the assembly line in 2023 and the first fully electric car should follow in the second half of the decade.
