Volkswagen Production Halted at Emden Plant Due to Electric Car Supply Issues

Volkswagen has issued an order to temporarily stop the production of electric cars at its plant in the German city of Emden, cars with internal combustion engines are not affected by this order.

Volkswagen has had problems with the supply of parts, so work at the Emden factory has already been suspended. According to the latest information, one of the factory’s conveyors could be idle until December 1, affecting the work rhythm of more than 1,000 people and electric models Volkswagen ID.4, ID.5, as well as Audi Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-Tron production.

The media reports that the problems arose with the electric motors of the new design, which are supplied to this production line by the Kassel plant. There are not enough of them, so the engines from Kassel are reserved for the Volkswagen ID.7 model, so as not to affect the release schedule of the flagship.

As for the other assembly line in Emden, which produces the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born, these models are equipped with the already known 150 kW electric motor, which is sufficient so that the operation of this production segment is not affected, as are the capacities used with internal combustion engines for the production of equipped models.
