Volkswagen launches Golf R Variant, a family car with hundreds of horsepower and Drift mode. It is an alternative to consider for performance SUVs.
The new Volkswagen Golf R Variant is – like the hatchback version, launched last year – powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine. The unit develops 320 horsepower and a maximum torque of 420 Newton meters. Resources are shipped to all four wheels via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive.
The Germans take into account an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds. There are numbers that make it 0.2 seconds slower than hatchback-st. The maximum speed is 250 km / h or 270 km / h when the car is ordered with the R Performance package. The optional package also brings 19-inch wheels, but also two interesting modes. It’s about the Special (for the Nurburgring) and Drift.
Volkswagen Golf R Variant – heavier, more capable, more expensive
The new Volkswagen Golf R weighs 79 kilograms more than the hatchback. But it also offers more. Compared to its predecessor, the Golf Variant Mk8 is 349 millimeters longer. This translates into more space on board.
Obviously, the difference in space is also seen in the trunk, with a volume of 611 liters or 1,642 liters when the seat back is folded. It becomes a really practical space, because there are several storage solutions, such as hooks or nets.
Volkswagen reconfigured the suspension to bring the car superior capabilities and more dynamic behavior. Golf R Variant can lift up to 1,900 kilograms.
There are features on board similar to those of the hatchback version. Included here are sports seats, details that mimic carbon fiber and blue ambient light. The future owner of the Volkswagen Golf R will hold a flat-bottomed steering wheel and will benefit from the presence of a digital instrument panel.
The new Volkswagen Golf R Variant will be available in Germany starting next month. Its price on the home market will exceed 50,000 euros. It will thus become the most expensive Golf series ever built.
