Volkswagen is due to stop accepting orders for plug-in hybrids, and it is also waiting for a two-week outage

Volkswagen will stop accepting orders for some plug-in hybrid models from Wednesday, March 9, writes the Automotive News Europe website, referring to the German daily Handelsblatt. The reason is the lack of chips and also problems in the supply chain related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The temporary stem is to apply to plug-in hybrids in the Golf, Tiguan, Passat, Arteon and Touareg models. It is not known until when it will last. The brand is not the first to take such a step. According to Reuters, Audi suspended the receipt of orders for plug-in hybrids last week.

Audi also suspended production of the A4 and A5 in Ingolstadt, as well as production of the A6 and A7 in Neckarsulm. Porsche has suspended the production of macan and panamer at the Leipzig plant. The reason is the lack of cable harnesses, which are produced in Ukraine.

The production break also applies to the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg, where golf, tiguan, touran and Seata Tarraco are built. It was originally scheduled for next week, but the lines will stop this week. Like the factory in Cvikov, where cars are built on the MEB platform, Wolfsburg will stand until March 18.

BMW also introduced production shutdowns in Munich, Dingolfing and Oxford, where it produces Mini cars. Mercedes-Benz limits production, but tries to avoid complete downtime.

Due to the war in Ukraine, Škoda is also having problems, and it is not just a matter of stopping production at the Solomonovo plant there. The Skoda Trade Union magazine said last week that the carmaker lacked components for cable harnesses and switch modules, which caused the suspension of production of the Enyaq electric model.
