Volkswagen introduces the ID.Buzz as an electric retro MPV and van

Large usable space, comfort behind the wheel on long journeys, carbon neutrality, and most importantly a unique design and style. Volkswagen promises all this from the new MPV ID.Buzz and its utility sibling with the nickname Cargo. Both novelties, with their appearance, are loosely connected to the original “T1 or T2” busbars “.

Both models stand on the MEB electric platform. The first models will arrive on the market with an electric motor with an output of 204 horsepower and batteries with a total capacity of 82 kWh.

The battery can be recharged from 5 to 80% capacity in 30 minutes with fast charging with a voltage of 170 kWh. The only thing Volkswagen has not said exactly yet is how long the ID.Buzz will be.

Thanks to a smaller electric motor that drives exclusively the rear axle, Volkswagen was able to use the design potential of the original concept introduced five years ago and bring the electric car as close as possible to the iconic Volkswagen T1. The car has almost no overhang in front, as well as the legendary van famous for its hippie lifestyle.

The new MPV has official dimensions of 4,712 millimeters in length, 1985 mm in width and 1,937 mm in height, with the Cargo version being one millimeter taller. In general, the ID.Buzz is shorter but wider than the last common T6 transporters. The cars will be marketed with new LED headlights and wheels in sizes from 18 to 21 inches. There will also be the possibility of two-color painting.

From the beginning, Volkswagen intends to offer the MPV as a five-seater car with a large luggage compartment with a volume of 1121 liters. The Cargo model will then offer three seats in the front and a space that can hold up to two euro pallets and carry 650 kilograms. In the coming years, ID.Buzz is to arrive in a six-seater and a seven-seater variant, and therefore also in a residential version of California. It is planned for 2025.

The interior of the car is designed as an open space and has a huge amount of space for the entire crew. Drivers will have two digital displays at their disposal, one as an instrument panel and the other for classical infotainment control with a diagonal of 10 and 12 inches. There will be traditional gadgets such as ambient lighting or USB-C ports.

Both models will be produced at the Volkswagen plant in Hanover, Germany, and the first cars are expected to start in May. At the end of the summer, finished copies will be delivered to customers. Simultaneously with the start of production, Volkswagen also wants to start sales. At the same time, it boasts that ID.Buzz is the first MPV to be produced with a neutral CO2 emissions balance.
