‘Coupé version’ ID4 on display for the first time!
The Volkswagen Group is happy to put some pressure on its SUVs. In a literal sense. The group presses down what can be squashed and so it is no surprise that the electric Volkswagen ID4 also gets a little brother with a sportier-looking roof line next to it. For the first time in the picture: the Volkswagen ID5!

Those who are not enthusiastic about SUVs and crossovers will undoubtedly have nothing to do with the latest trend in SUV land: coupé SUVs. Although SsangYong was somewhat laughed at years ago for the Actyon with its steeply sloping roofline and striking front and rear, ‘coupe versions’ of SUVs are now increasingly common appearances. Mercedes-Benz has Coupé flavors of the GLC and GLE, BMW has sat on the roof of the X3 and X5 for the X4 and X6 and even a brand like Porsche is happily following the squeeze trend with the Cayenne Coupé. Skoda has in China a coupe version of the Kodiaq are on the menu and Volkswagen is already selling in that country de Teramont X in Tayron X, but in Europe coupé SUVs from the Volkswagen Group are virtually unknown. That will soon change. The Skoda Enyaq gets a compartment brother and also the recently unveiled Volkswagen ID4 is joined by a model with a more sloping roofline. The latter has now appeared for the first time before the lens of our spy photographer.
In a conference call, Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter recently confirmed to AutoWeek that the brand is expanding its ID family, which now consists of the ID3 and ID4, with the ID5 next year. Indeed, a coupé version of the ID4. Volkswagen seems to have developed a passion for crazy sticker sheets in a short time. This is how the brand recently did its best the upcoming ID6, a seven-seater version of the ID4 with three rows of seats, disguised as a Peugeot 5008 to send onto the road and Volkswagen has also put on its fun pants for the camouflage work of the ID5. Although the model can clearly be recognized as a Volkswagen, the brand has given the ID5 a Kia Stonic-like face.
Volkswagen is said to have sporty GTX trim levels of both the ID4 and ID5 in the barrel. The car in these pictures could just be the ID5 GTX. At the bottom of the rear bumper, we observe two openings, which suggest that the outlets of the exhaust system are housed here. The already known ID4 does not have that. In addition, we see a rear spoiler at the bottom of the rear window, although it is possible that this design element is not purely reserved for the sporty GTX version. The ID5 will be at dealers next year.
