The Volkswagen ID.Unyx is almost the same as the Cupra Tavascan, but not quite.
The open database of China’s Ministry of Industry and Trade includes information about the Vokswagen ID.Unyx, an electric crossover that is very similar to the Cupra Tavascan and, like the sporty Spanish SUV, will be produced at Volkswagen’s Anhui plant in China.
It was the Cupra Tavascan that became the first model of the entire Volkswagen Group to be manufactured in China and delivered from there to Europe and other regions of the world. Production at Volkswagen’s newest plant in Anhui started last December, but the joint venture with China’s JAC has big plans for at least 350,000 electric vehicles a year, so the Tavascan will by no means be the only model on the assembly line.
It will soon be joined by Volkswagen ID.Unyx – an electric crossover complete with original bumpers, wheel rims, simpler light technology and Volkswagen logos. Basically, the car is a rebranded Tavascan, but since the Cupra brand and even its parent company Seat are unknown in China, it is presented as a Volkswagen product in the local market.
It is known that the Volkswagen ID.Unyx will be offered in two versions: with rear-wheel drive and a 170 kW engine, as well as in an all-wheel drive modification with a 170 kW engine at the rear and an 80 kW engine at the front.
Technical data show that the five-seater car is 4.66 m long and has a wheelbase of 2.76 m. The rear-wheel drive version weighs 2166 kg, the AWD variant is 100 kg heavier. The maximum speed is the same for both variants – 160 km/h, but there is no data on the range yet.
