Already on sale for more than two years in a five-seater version, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz is seeing its range expand. The 100% electric combi is now available with a longer wheelbase, allowing it to accommodate six or seven passengers.
With this new version, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles therefore hopes to maintain the good dynamics of its model. Sales of the ID.Buzz have indeed taken off in 2024, since it has seen its registrations jump by 92% in one year (figures at the end of August 2024).
A good performance which allows the German manufacturer’s SUV brand to occupy 5% of the market share (+14.4%). In total, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles sold 240,000 units over the first eight months of 2024, an increase of 12.5%.
Especially since Volkswagen’s SUV range will soon be strengthened by the launch of the new California, but also by the arrival of the seventh generation of the Transporter and Caravelle.
Five, six or seven seats
Like its previous version, this new ID.Buzz brings the combi concept back to life. And the nods to the T1 history are therefore numerous. Starting with the long V-shaped front hood which incorporates the large Volkswagen logo, or the three bars of design on the rear pillar which pay homage to the side vents of its predecessor.
The long wheelbase ID.Buzz (3,239 mm wheelbase) measures 4,962 mm long, gaining 250 mm in length compared to the normal wheelbase versions (2,989 mm). An extension which now allows five, six or seven seats to be installed for passengers, depending on the configuration.
Previously available in a five-seater version, the normal wheelbase ID.Buzz can now also be fitted out with three rows of seats to accommodate six passengers. With five people on board, the trunk has a maximum capacity of 1,340 liters, and with seven passengers, the trunk volume remains 306 liters.
The launch of the new ID.Buzz models is also accompanied by a redesign of the infotainment system’s graphical interface and navigation menu. In short, the use of the 12.9-inch screen is simplified, gaining in intuitiveness and the possibility of customization.
Gain in autonomy
However, this move to a long wheelbase version does not only result in changes to the cabin. Under the hood, the new ID.Buzz are equipped with a new electric motor with a power of 210 kW (286 hp). It similarly has a larger 86 kWh battery, allowing it to travel up to 487 km between two recharges.
Cooldown times have also been shortened. The ID.Buzz is thus capable of refueling by plugging into DC fast charging stations thanks to its charging power of up to 200 kW. The 86 kWh battery then recharges from 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes at maximum power.
With the arrival of the long wheelbase ID.Buzz, Volkswagen is also introducing the GTX versions for this same model. Thanks to its two electric motors developing no less than 250 kW (340 hp), this is the most powerful combi of all time with all-wheel drive.
Regarding prices, the seven-seater ID.Buzz Pro starts at 58,400 euros including tax, while the entry ticket for its five-seater version is set at 52,850 euros including tax. As for the GTX versions, the one that can accommodate five passengers has a price of 69,515 euros including tax, while the long wheelbase version costs 72,800 euros including tax.
