Volkswagen ID.3 enters the Czech market. It is supposed to be an electric revolution, but so far it costs a million

The Wolfsburg carmaker does not hesitate to call the novelty its third milestone in its materials. After the first model Beetle and Golf. After the first edition of the model, which entered the Czech market in three trim levels, the ID.3 is starting to sell at standard levels.

It follows ID.3 Style for CZK 1,097,900. In addition to the equipment of the Life version, it contains, for example, a panoramic sunroof or progressive IQ headlights. Light-Matrix LEDs and LED rear lights with dynamic direction indicators.

First with the middle battery

All currently offered variants come with a drive called Pro Performance. The electric motor with a maximum output of 150 kW (204 hp) and a maximum torque of 310 Nm drives the rear wheels.

Electricity is supplied by a set of batteries, the usable capacity of 58 kWh is enough to cover a distance of up to 420 km on a single charge, according to the stricter WLTP methodology. The batteries can be charged with 11 kW AC or DC with 100 kW charging power.

In addition to the currently available set of batteries, a version with a capacity of 45 kWh will later be available, which should reduce the price of the car by at least a few tens of thousands of crowns. However, the offer will also expand upwards. The top variants will be powered by a set of batteries with 77 kWh and a range of 549 km on a single charge according to the WLTP methodology.

Delay

The concept called ID was shown in 2016 at the Paris Motor Show to entice the future. We first inspected the production car in September 2019 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Even then, it was a belated premiere. We are used to the fact that after the premiere the cars will reach the first customers in a few months, but in the case of ID.3 it is a clean year.

According to a number of German media, software problems can be blamed for this. The novelty will make a number of functions available online, even on an additional order. For example, in April this year, the German Süddeutsche Zeitung reported that on-board equipment software was internally referred to as an “absolute catastrophe”.

In addition, developers had to deal with limitations due to the pandemic of a new type of coronavirus when fine-tuning the news.

“The past months have been a great challenge for the entire team preparing the production of the ID.3 model, made more difficult by the conditions of the ongoing pandemic. All the more important is the fact that we are now in the immediate vicinity of the launch of the ID.3 model, ”said Thomas Ulbrich, a member of the Volkswagen Board of Management responsible for electromobility, at the introduction of the first edition.
