Volkswagen has unveiled the most powerful Golf yet, celebrating the anniversary of the R version

The “regular” Volkswagen Golf of the eighth generation has 320 horses in the R version. However, the piece that stands in front of us now has 13 more horses. This makes it the most powerful golf in the history of this model; the previous generation ended up on 310 horses.

With this special edition, the carmaker is celebrating 20 years since the beginning of the Golf R, although when this version of the German bestseller appeared, it was called the R32. For a simple reason – it had a 3.2-liter VR6 engine under the hood. He gave 241 horses and 320 Nm

Such performance, along with all-wheel drive and a dual-clutch transmission – it was, by the way, the first mass-produced and mass-available car with this technology – accelerated to one hundred in 6.4 seconds. Whoever chose the manual six-pitcher was two tenths slower at 100.

The six-cylinder got into top golf once again, in the fifth generation. It had the same volume and output of 250 horsepower. Since the sixth generation, this version is called R and is powered by a supercharged four-cylinder.

This is also the case in the current generation, including the annual version. In her case, the developers got a neat 333 horsepower from a two-liter EA888. This is enough for the car to accelerate to 100 in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 270 km / h – twenty more than the “ordinary” golf R can handle due to the electronic limiter. However, even in this case, the electronic limitation is more than probable.

A feature called Emotional Start has also been added, which turns the engine at 2,500 rpm when starting. We can only assume what the engine components have to say, for which starting is the moment of greatest wear. According to the carmaker, this feature “raises the expectations of a typical R-model driving experience”.

Another modification is the changes in the control unit of the DSG gearbox, which in the S and S + modes should now give “noticeable feedback” during disengagement in the form of a small jerk. And the turbocharger should stay more spun even when driving under lower load, which will reduce the turbocharger delay during the subsequent rapid addition.

The dashboard was decorated with real carbon.

Of course, there are also design changes, such as the carbon trim of the instrument panel, which we see at Volkswagen first, the larger rear spoiler, blue logos or mirror covers in reference to the blue color of the original R32 golf course and the necessary plaques.

The annual golf R will be produced in limited numbers until the middle of 2023, but which the carmaker has not yet announced.
