The “ID.3” has been the most popular and best-selling fully electric VW car in the Baltics for the past three years. Last December, we started early pre-sales of the second generation “ID.3”. At that time, the design of the production model of the car was not yet known, but customers until today’s world have already made more than 20 orders for the premiere. This is pleasing and gives room for optimism that the second-generation “ID.3” will also continue on this path. It is planned to start full pre-sale of the new model in April, but the first modernized “ID.3″ will arrive in the Baltics already in the summer ,” explains VW Brand Manager in the Baltic States Justas Nekrošus.
The modernized model has a newly designed front bumper – now the bonnet looks longer, as the black insert on the windshield side has been removed, while the sunken sections at the edges create the impression of additional visual lengthening. Aerodynamics have been improved with better airflow around the front wheels – known as the “air curtain”. At the rear, the new two-part lights are now also integrated into the luggage compartment cover.
The interior of the updated “ID.3” has a successful futuristic design and a combination of sustainable materials. The feeling of quality is also enhanced by precise stitching in a contrasting color. The microfiber material “Artvelours Eco” is used for the door trim parts and the seat material. The fabric contains 71% recyclate, which is a recycled material. It is obtained by recycling plastic waste that has been used at least once before. “Artvelours Eco” material has the same properties as conventional interior decoration materials in terms of appearance, feel and durability. The cabin equipment also does not use materials of animal origin, such as leather.
In addition, a number of customer suggestions were collected and implemented to improve the product and basic equipment package. The redesigned doors have softer and larger surfaces, and the armrests in the doors are also now larger.
The modernized “ID.3” is equipped with the latest generation of software, thereby improving the system’s efficiency, and it is able to receive updates wirelessly. The compact driver’s display with a 5.3-inch screen is operated using the touch-sensitive controls on the multifunction steering wheel. The diagonal of the multimedia screen is 12 inches. Various other customer wishes were also incorporated into the menu structure, for example the charging menu is now located at the top of the touchscreen display and is more clearly structured.
The optional augmented reality pop-up display displays information about speed and other vehicle functions. Active and dynamic navigation directions are also projected onto the windshield. The driver gets the feeling that these indications are displayed approximately 10 meters in front of the car.
VW’s product range now consists of six “IDs.” series models. In addition to the production in Zwickau and Dresden, the modernized “ID.3” will also be produced in the central factory in Wolfsburg from autumn 2023.
