Volkswagen Group delivers 165 percent more electric vehicles in a year – IT Pro – News

In the first half of 2021, all Volkswagen brands worldwide delivered 170,939 fully electric vehicles. That is more than double the year before, when 64,462 fully electric vehicles were still delivered.

The more than doubling is mainly due to the fact that many more vehicles were delivered in the second quarter, according to the figures of the Volkswagen Group. 110,991 BEVs were delivered in the second quarter of 2021, almost double the number of the first and second quarters of 2020 combined.

Of all markets, the European market remains the most important for the company. Almost three quarters of all fully electric vehicles delivered were delivered in Europe. More than 18,000 vehicles have been delivered in both the US and China, and 6,000 BEVs have been delivered in the rest of the world.

The figures cover trucks, delivery vans and passenger cars, although the share of passenger cars remains by far the largest. For example, 450 MAN vehicles and 1,164 vehicles from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles were sold in the first six months of 2021.

The Volkswagen brand remains the largest brand in passenger cars. In the first half year, 92,859 electric Volkswagen cars were sold; more than all other Volkswagen brands combined. Within passenger cars, the largest growth came from Porsche. In 2020 there were still 4,480 cars, a year later 19,822 electric Porsches were delivered: 342.5 percent more.

Volkswagen says the number of deliveries has grown as Volkswagen has started to offer more car models. The company promises to announce even more fully electric cars this year and therefore expects the number of delivered cars to rise even further. The most popular model was the Volkswagen ID.4, followed by the ID.3, the Audi e-tron models, the Porsche Taycan models and the Volkswagen e-up!.
