The carmakers Škoda and Audi presented the latest variants of their CNG models, namely the new Octavia and A3. On the same platform, Volkswagen now introduces the new Volkswagen Golf TGI with its compressed natural gas engine.

This year, the VW Group has made it known that it is ending the development of CNG vehicles, but there is nothing to stop carmakers under its wings from using already developed engines. That’s why Volkswagen reached for the 1.5-liter shared engine with four cylinders with 130 horsepower and 200 Nm. The supercharged unit with a consumption of 4.1 to 4.3 kilograms of CNG per 100 kilometers will travel up to 400 kilometers on gas.

The tanks are complemented by a nine-liter petrol tank. In this case, the car can be transformed into traditional combustion and thus ensure a reserve range in case of emergency. Combustion also works to help start the engine at low outside temperatures.

As for the Volkswagen Golf variants, the German carmaker is to offer the engine version of the TGI for both the standard five-door hatchback and the other Variant. CNG propulsion is also advantageous in terms of CO2 emissions, which according to VW are up to 25 percent lower than with a gasoline engine.
