Volkswagen Golf 8 Gtd, a sports car for those who do a lot of km: price and features

The diesel alternative to the petrol Gti with the 200 HP of power available is credited with brilliant performance, but also with a great autonomy. Price list from 41,450 euros

It debuted with the first generation back in 1982 and with the 1,600 cm3 70 HP Turbodiesel, unusual for the time in particular on a compact sports car, but today’s new Golf Gtd, now in its eighth generation, takes up the spirit of that time, with dynamism, high torque at low revs, but also very low fuel consumption. After 38 years, however, the horses have almost tripled and are combined with sporty forms and cutting-edge technological and digital solutions. After the Gti gasoline sports car and the Gte hybrid, the other hot Golf is, in fact, the Gtd, already ordered with a price of 41,450 euros and on sale from November.

STANDARD equipment

The new Volkswagen Golf Gtd comes standard with the 7-speed Dsg dual-clutch robotised gearbox, 17-inch wheels and the automatic air conditioning Climatronic, with separate controls for the driver, front passenger and rear ones, as well as external parts with a more gritty look: there are also specific fascias, the chromed frieze in the grille, the side skirts and the two exhausts located to the left of the bumper. Also included in the price are the keyless entry system, the parking assistant, the distance sensors both front and rear and the selector for driving modes.

THE ADAS AVAILABLE

Among the driving assistance systems, the new Volkswagen Golf Gtd is equipped with automatic braking, the adaptive cruise control and lane keeping, but also with the system that detects signs of fatigue in the driver: if the driving becomes less fluid and the turns become more abrupt, the Fatique Detection invites the pilot to make a stop and prevents him from dozing off while driving. There is also the Travel Assist 2.0 which manages steering, accelerator and brakes in semi-autonomy, up to a speed of 210 km / h and allows the GTD to follow the flow of traffic.

THE MEDIA DISCOVER IS FREE

In the first weeks of sale of the new Volkswagen Golf Gtd, the Discover Media multimedia system is offered free of charge, with 10 “touch screen in the console, voice commands and the system to connect wireless smartphones. Discover Media has a market value of 1,500 euros.

PERFORMANCE AS A SPORTSMAN OF BREED

The engine of the Volkswagen Golf Gtd is a two thousand with 200 Hp and 400 Nm of torque, the most powerful diesel on a Golf. Thanks to it, the compact German reaches a top speed of 245 km / h and reaches 100 km / h, from a standing start, in 7.1 seconds. The average distance declared is 19.5 km with one liter of diesel. Finally, to improve handling on the road, the new Golf Gtd is available as standard with a lowered suspension of 1.5 cm and, on request, also with electronically controlled suspensions, a paid option available at a price of 865. euro more.
