Volkswagen has just announced a new camper version of its California 6.1 for the United Kingdom, thus expanding the range of ‘home’ variants in its catalogue, although at the moment we do not know if this new finish in the range will be available in other European countries.
The new Volkswagen California Surf, as it is called, is a special finish that is basically positioned in the range between the existing Beach Tour and Ocean. The price in the United Kingdom starts at 68,234 pounds sterling, the equivalent of 76,864 euros at the exchange rate. Customers will also be able to choose between interior configurations of four or seven seats, depending on their needs.
The main novelty of the version is that it includes elements such as a gas cooker with two burners or a removable stainless steel sink that can also be used as a laundry room as standard equipment. At the moment, yes, the manufacturer has only offered a photograph of the model, which is the one that heads the article.
Like other variants of the California, this new Surf offers space for four people to sleep, thanks to an upper bed and a rear bench seat that also converts into a bed. The pop-up roof, for its part, allows occupants to move around standing up inside.
Both front seats are heated, the center console incorporates an 8.0-inch multimedia screen and we find equipment such as a three-zone climate control or a sound system with eight speakers.
Adaptive cruise control, for example, is part of the list of options, while if the client is looking for even more camper equipment, such as a fridge, or technology such as a digital instrument panel, they should opt for the superior Ocean finish.
As far as motorization is concerned, the California Surf hides the well-known 2.0 TDI turbodiesel block, in this case with 150 HP of power and associated with a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission. It should also be noted that the version includes 16-inch alloy wheels.
As we have commented, in Spain we do not know if Volkswagen will offer this finish, since the range currently has five options, called Outdoor Camper, Outdoor Tour, Beach Tour, Beach Camper and Ocean, with a starting price of around 56,000 euros in the case of the first and up to 70,600 euros for the most equipped, before options.
