Häupl & Wehsely call on the federal government to take measures against the corona wave of poverty
Vienna (OTS) – In support of the nationwide Volkshilfe campaign “livelihood security. For all. Now. “Find the president and the managing director of Volkshilfe Wien, Michael Häupl and Tanja Wehsely clear words in the direction of the federal government.
Michael Häupl formulated an urgent warning to the government: “I appeal to the federal government to take the impending danger of a nationwide wave of poverty seriously and to provide basic child benefits as soon as possible for those who are at risk of childhood poverty. Social justice is the order of the day. Anyone who invests in social measures now prevents expensive follow-up costs
.“
“For months we have been observing an influx of people in our facilities who suddenly ended up in poverty and financial hardship after losing their job,” explains Tanja Wehsely the current situation and continues: “These are the people that the government has forgotten about and who are already up to their necks. The significant increase in unemployment benefit to 70-80% is therefore essential. There is also a need for a “life assurance” for everyone who is now in need and a package to stop eviction. “
„I deeply reject the term “lost generation” that is haunted in the media. Right now we have to offer our young people credible opportunities for the future and, in addition to a real job guarantee, also ensure a fair minimum wage
“, adds Wehsely in conclusion.
