Traffic situation in Höllental.
. A group of well-known Freiburgers around the former SC coach Volker Finke is campaigning for a transit ban in Höllental after the winter traffic chaos at the beginning of February. With his wife, journalist Reinhild Dettmer-Finke, Wilfried Telkamper, former Vice President of the European Parliament, Beatrix Tappeser, chairwoman of the Oberwiehre-Waldsee citizens’ association, and Gabi Dierdorf, local councilor of Ebnet, Finke wants to ensure that trucks weighing more than twelve tons it’s over at the motorway exits. The group hopes that this will relieve the traffic situation in Freiburg and in the Höllental. The ban shall not apply to traders or suppliers whose destination is within the ban area.
Linked to this requirement is a general rethink for the group with regard to planned construction projects on the B 31, in particular the Freiburg city tunnel. Telkamper emphasizes that at the end of the gradual expansion there would be nothing but a motorway. This approach would not relieve the region, but would put an additional burden on it. “Whoever sows roads will reap traffic, it’s always been like that.” On the one hand, they want to market the Southern Black Forest Nature Park as a recreation area, on the other hand, it will be cut up by traffic. “These are all contradictions.” Finke calls it “unacceptable that we will continue to allow truck traffic to drive through Freiburg for ten or 20 years.” The group of five is also involved in the “Statt Tunnel” initiative and in the Dreisamufer forum. “There is close cooperation because we have the same interests,” says Finke. They want to mobilize through meetings and discussions with affected municipalities.
