Volkel Air Base flooded with hundreds of F16 spotters

Hundreds of spotters gathered at the air base in Volkel on Friday afternoon to see F-16s for the last time. The Dutch fighter planes started their farewell flight around 1:30 p.m. It takes about two hours. The aircraft will be replaced by the newer F-35s.

The people who want to see the F-16s have come to Volkel well prepared. They have chairs and steps with them so that they can look over the fence at the air base. The children present wear hearing protectors.

“I’m still busy with the preparations, so I haven’t really been able to think about it yet. But it will certainly be a moment,” the commander said earlier in Omroep Brabant’s radio program Afslag Zuid.
